Can you imagine not having to shave anymore?! Just think about the amount of time you would save by not having to shave in the shower, or the money you would save by skipping your monthly waxing sessions. This is all possible with laser hair removal.
If you are not familiar with how laser works, then it can seem scary and intimidating. But no worries, it is a very simple, straight forward procedure, done in numerous clinics and spas across the world!
Before Your Appointment
Before your laser hair removal appointment, there are a few things you should know. At Ultimate Health Clinic, we offer free consultations in clinic. During the consultation we will determine your skin type, if you are a good candidate for laser, and we will even do a test patch so you can really see what laser is like. Consultations and appointments can also be done in the same day if time permits.
There are a few key things to remember in order to prepare for your laser appointment. Do not pluck, tweeze, or wax for 4 weeks leading up to your appointment. Your hair follicle needs to be attached to the follicle and in its growth period (anagen stage) when you get laser hair removal, so you don’t want to pull it out by plucking or waxing. Be sure to shave the night before. Shave every part of you that will be treated during the laser hair removal process.
Avoid the sun for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. Freshly tanned skin cannot be treated (this includes tanning beds). You should also discontinue using any self-tanning products at least a week prior to treatment. Your skin needs to be bare and fresh for your laser appointment.
During Your Appointment
Your first laser hair removal appointment will go something like this:
The front desk will get you to sign a health history form, and a consent form. This form will also ask a series of questions to figure out your skin type and lifestyle in order to determine any contraindications you may have, and also ensure a safe yet effective treatment plan for you.
Your technician will take you back to a room and answer any last questions you may have about the treatment before they start. Next, the technician will leave the room while you change and prepare for your treatment. Protective eyewear will be provided that will protect your eyes from the laser’s light.
Once treatment has started, ultrasound gel will be applied to the area, and the laser will begin gliding back and forth. The process itself feels like a rubber band being snapped on your skin. The technician will ask you every now and then how you are feeling it on a scale from 1 – 10. Your response will be different depending on your individual pain tolerance, area being treated, and what session you are on, for example your first session or your fifth session.
Once the appropriate number of passes has been done and treatment has been completed, your technician will offer you aloe vera gel to calm down any irritated skin, and clean towels will be provided so you can change back into your clothes, and you will meet your technician back at the front desk.
After Your Appointment
Your technician will rebook you for your next session, somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks. After your appointment, your treated skin may feel a little warm and sensitive, which is normal. It is very important to be cautious and gentle with your just-treated skin.
Some other things you should know after your appointment:
Do not wax, tweeze, or pluck your hair in between treatments, although you can shave as much as you would like. Avoid direct sunlight on the area, and use SPF at all times. As your hair grows back, you might notice that it is growing back slower and some bald patches. Also, there may be some hair that falls out as it grows back, which is completely normal as well.
Remember, the best results are seen with consistent sessions! The process can sometimes be lengthy, but it is definitely well worth it! Call the clinic today and schedule your FREE consultation, and begin your hair free journey.
